Charity of the MonthJuly 22, 2025by Bipana Gurung0Helping Albertans Breathe Easier: Supporting Alberta Lung This Charity Day

Every month, Mosaic Home Services proudly supports a local organization that makes a difference in our communities. This July, we’re honoured to support Alberta Lung, a charity dedicated to improving lung health for all Albertans through education, research, prevention, and advocacy.

About Alberta Lung

Alberta Lung has been a leader in respiratory health for over 90 years. Originally founded as the Alberta Tuberculosis Association in 1939, its early efforts focused on fighting tuberculosis through public education and mobile chest x-ray units.

As respiratory health challenges evolved, so did Alberta Lung. The organization expanded its mission to address a wide range of lung diseases, including those caused by smoking and environmental factors. It supported major milestones such as Alberta’s first successful lung transplant in 1983, the discovery of the cystic fibrosis gene in 1998, and the early sequencing of the SARS virus in 2003.

In 2021, Alberta Lung became an independent organization, allowing it to focus entirely on the needs of Albertans. Today, it continues to support education, research, advocacy, and programs that help people breathe easier across the province.

The Impact Alberta Lung’s Work

Here’s how Alberta Lung is making a lasting impact across Alberta:

    • Supports individuals living with lung disease through educational resources, support groups led by certified respiratory educators, and patient care assistance including access to housing and medical equipment.
    • Offers guidance on indoor and outdoor air quality, including resources for wildfire smoke protection and DIY air cleaner instructions to help improve breathing conditions at home.
    • Provides disease-specific education and resources for conditions such as asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and more.
    • Advocates for clean air and better lung health by raising awareness during events like wildfire smoke alerts and supporting public information campaigns.
    • Is developing Breathing Space, a unique facility designed to provide housing and support services for lung transplant recipients and their families.
