In the simplest of terms, a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy (CSR) is a formal way in which businesses aim to contribute to community goals of a philanthropic, activist, or charitable nature by engaging in or supporting volunteering or ethically oriented practices.

The competition in business can be fierce, and it can be challenging for a business to differentiate itself from its competitors. A business that takes Social Responsibility seriously can gain consumers as well as develop a forum to sell and earn their customers’ attention and respect.

Social Responsibility can raise awareness about your business as a positive power in society and in your community. The projects you and your team choose to support and participate in work in tandem. They not only raise awareness, funds and/or physical labour in certain cases for the charity, they also raise your brand exposure. The more exposure to the public your brand can receive, the more likely it is that you will be recognized easier in the competitive crowd.

While it is important to be recognizable as a philanthropic company to your customer, it is equally important to be recognized that way to the people who work with you. Retaining a good, like-minded team of people who will foster a productive and positive work environment, I believe is in direct correlation to a strong CSR policy.

Today, a business that is committed to improving the world, one charitable activity at a time, will attract more talent. Customer satisfaction and employee retention are the keys to any successful business.

A company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy should reflect their core values.

At Mosaic Home Services, we believe firmly in our CSR policy. We believe that having a CSR policy that reflects our core values as a corporation and blends the values of the people that work with us to those of our clients, forms our foundation. We aim to be a business that practices excellent Corporate Social Responsibility to improve our community, our economy, and ourselves.

Our core mission is to help Canadians succeed and grow, not only by helping them to build their own businesses and build up their own local economies, but also by giving back to the communities that nurture our growth and sustain us.

When we, as a leadership team, discussed our Corporate Social Responsibility policy, it was of the utmost importance to maintain the integrity of our core mission and values. This mission and these values were ideated and set by the people that work within Mosaic Home Services. It is a blend of all of us united, working towards a common goal with integrity, and a willingness to learn and evolve. We are all linked together within our communities and strive for them to be the best they can be.

With all of this in mind, we wrote our policy to reflect the true value of what we as an organization believe in. We choose charitable organizations within the community that have core values that align with our own. We do this by making charitable giving a top priority each month.

We choose the last Thursday of each month to give 5% of sales from all our brands to organizations that are chosen by our team members and or suggested by our community.

Charitable giving may seem slightly egotistical, and while it does improve our brand recognition by showing we have a socially conscious image, for us at Mosaic, it goes far beyond that.

The Knight family has always been philanthropic and when starting Mosaic Home Services, we knew having a solid Corporate Socially Responsible Policy was a priority. While initiating and implementing the policy, involving our entire team was very important

This is the core of what our team developed for our CSR:

Mosaic Home Services is dedicated to Expecting More and Building Dreams by partnering with charitable organizations that have a solid commitment to:

  1. Education
  2. Inclusion
  3. Physical & Mental Health

Being able to support the community that supports us requires a strategy that is sustainable and ongoing. Even through tough times, like Covid-19, when we couldn’t give as much financially, we found creative ways to give such as volunteering our time, our strength, and our mentorship. We are all living in the same community just trying to live our best lives.

Part of being a good business is respecting the community you serve.

Being a great business is doing your best to help others in the community you serve
